What was the cause of Her Sadness, her tears and weeping for almost two hundred years to the Catholic Faithful?

One can turn to the Bible and recall that even Jesus wept for his friends and fellow countrymen on several occasions. In this instance, it was because of the sins of His fellow Hebrews and the destruction of Jerusalem:
"And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:  If thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace; but now they are hidden from thy eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and straiten thee on every side,  And beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee: and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone: because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation."
Luke 19:41-44

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows.  In this month, we celebrate her Nativity on September 8th, then her Holy Name on the 12th, Anniversary of the September 13th of Fatima, The Exaltation of the Cross (which she stood by) on the 14th, The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 15th, Our Lady of La Salette on the 19th and Our Lady of Ransom on the 24th. Let us focus on the Sadness of Our Lady of Sorrows and other apparitions that demonstrate her sadness...

The Tears of Our Lady of La Salette

"When I was up close to the Beautiful Lady,
in front of her to her right, she began to speak
and from her beautiful eyes tears also started to flow."

Melanie's words describing Our Lady of La Salette,
the first time she saw her.

According to Fr. Luigi Villa, Th.D. the words of Our Lady of La Salette were very descriptive in warning us of the future....which, for us, is no longer the future:

"On September 19, 1846, on the Mountain of La Salette, Our Lady appeared to Melanie and Maximin and gave them a Message that was later recognized by the Church, but a diabolical plot has continuously and deliberately mutilated and silenced it."

"In this long message, Our Lady spoke these words:

«The priests, ministers of My Son for their evil life, for their irreverence and their impiety in celebrating the Holy Mysteries, for the love of money, honors and pleasures, the priests have become cesspools of impurity. Yes, the priests ask for their revenge and revenge is suspended over their heads.»

«Woe to the Princes of the Church who think only of piling riches, to protect their authority and dominate with pride.»

«The Church will be abandoned to great persecutions, that one will be the time of darkness, and the Church will have a horrible crisis…»

«Tremble, earth, and you who proclaim yourselves to worship Jesus Christ, but, on the inside, only worship yourselves, tremble, for God will hand you over to His enemy because the holy places are in the state of corruption...»

«ROME WILL LOSE THE FAITH AND BECOME THE SEAT OF THE ANTICHRIST!». «The Church will be eclipsed...»

«It’s time. The sun is darkening, Faith alone will survive! Now is the time, the abyss is opening. Here is the king of darkness, here is the Beast with his subjects, calling himself the Savior of the world. He will rise proudly into the air to go up to Heaven...»

«Then water and fire will purge the earth and will consume all the works of men’s pride and all will be renewed: God will be served and glorified.»"

The Weeping of the Miraculous Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima

The above picture features the countenance of the Miraculous Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima on July 17th, 1972 in New Orleans - weeping. Some people believe that Our Lady  was weeping for our nation because of the future of America in which its governmental system would approve Abortion in 1973 causing millions of babies to be murdered by their own mothers.
The priest, Fr. Joseph Breault, M.A.P., that was the custodian of the statue reported that he personally witnessed this statue weeping 13 times!

We must recall that Sr. Lucia explained Our Lady's facial expression during the  1917 apparitions to Fr. Fuentes on December 26th, 1957 here:

”Also, Father, tell them that my cousins Francisco and Jacinta made sacrifices because they always saw the Blessed Virgin was very sad in all her apparitions. She never smiled at us. This anguish that we saw in her, caused by offenses to God and the chastisements that threaten sinners, penetrated our souls. And being children, we did not know what measures to devise except to pray and make sacrifices. …

Prayer and sacrifice are the two means to save the world. As for the Holy Rosary, Father, in these last times in which we are living, the Blessed Virgin has given a new efficacy to the praying of the Holy Rosary. This in such a way that there is no problem that cannot be resolved by praying the Rosary, no matter how difficult it is - be it temporal or above all spiritual

The Tears of Our Lady of Akita

On January 4, 1975, the statue of the Blessed Virgin began to weep. It continued to weep at intervals for the next 6 years and eight months. It wept on 101 occasions. This was 2 yrs.after she had appeared to Sr. Agnes.

Among the messages from Our Lady to Sr. Agnes was a call to pray the “Fatima Prayer” when praying the rosary. This was not common in Japan, at the time, but was an obvious link to the importance of her appearance in Fatima.

Also, it should not to go without notice that the “final message” from Our Lady of Akita was on October 13, which happens to be the anniversary of the “final message” and “Miracle of the Sun” in Fatima on October 13, 1917. Again, a strong link to the importance of her appearance in Fatima.

There were three occasions when Our Lady of Akita spoke to Sr. Agnes. You can read all three messages HERE, but I would like to begin by focusing on that final message on October 13, 1973 …

“My dear daughter, listen well to what I have to say to you. You will inform your superior.”

After a short silence:

“As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests.”

“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.

“The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them”

The Miraculous Countenance of La Dolorosa aka Our Lady of Sorrows

There are many beautiful images of the Sorrowful Mother. Of these, two will be mentioned as they have a ties to Our Lady of Good Success in Quito, Ecuador and Freemasonry.

It was on this very topic of the San Francisco earthquake that on April 20th, 1906, a Jesuit priest in a boys’ boarding school titled: St Gabriel in Quito chose to speak to the boys at dinner. The priest talked about the suddenness of the tragic event and how thousands died from one minute to the next. Afterwards, during a conversation amongst the boys revolving around this topic and how they would want to be in the state of grace and receive Communion before such an event, a supernatural prodigy took place.

It was in front of this very image, shown above, that this talk and chatter occurred. It is the miraculous image of “La Dolorosa” [The Holy Virgin of Sorrows] in Quito, Ecuador. It is a French oleograph bought from a street merchant depicting Our Lady with seven swords in her heart - representing her seven sorrows. She is shown holding the nails and crown of thorns of Her Son’s Passion. It hung on the wall of that boys’ school cafeteria.

As in many of Our Lady’s numerous earthly manifestations, she chooses to reveal herself to the pure and innocent souls of children, so it was that she once again chose three of the youngest of the thirty-six boys attending St. Gabriel’s to first notice Her presence there amongst them. These 3 boys had recently received their 1st Holy Communion that past Thursday which happened to be Holy Thursday. The manifestation occurred on April 20th, Easter Friday. And so these boys glanced at this image and noticed that the eyelids of the Blessed and Most Sorrowful Mother began to open and close. One of them immediately began to recite the Our Father and Hail Mary in front of the image. The other two went to call their friends to see this wonder. In the end, all thirty-six boys together with Father Andrew Roesch, witnessed the miracle of this famous picture.

The same miracle of becoming animated [at times even with even more changes of expression and skin color] occurred several times after this, once more in favor of the boys at the school, but this time in the chapel, to which the picture had been taken. Subsequently, the canonical ecclesiastical authorities, and the Vicar General ordered the picture to be transferred in procession from the College to the Church of the Jesuit Fathers. At the church the prodigy was repeated several times before the crowds gathered there. Again and again the wonder repeated itself. At one time for three consecutive days. At Riobamba, the same wonder was witnessed before a reproduction of the picture by more than twenty persons, among whom was the president of the municipality. Many, many conversions took place.

These occurrences happened at time when the Church was being terribly persecuted by Freemasonry that was advocating a hostile secularism from Catholic education and they focused on the Jesuits. Catholic Ecuadoreans saw in the Miracle of Dolorosa, Our Lady’s concern for the future of Ecuadorian children and youth that awakened in them, throughout the country, a strong momentum of religiosity. In 1954, the 50th anniversary of the first miracle, His Holiness Pope Pius XII ordered the Canonical Coronation of the miraculous image of Our Sorrowful Mother, declaring her Queen of the Catholic Education in Ecuador.

Under the Sorrowful Gaze of the Virgin in the Cathedral in Plaza  Grande,
Gabriel Garcia Moreno died

Garcia Moreno, the famous Catholic President that consecrated Ecuador to the Sacred Heart of Jesus during his term,  was sentenced to death by the Grand Council of the Masonic Order. All Masonic newspapers in Europe and America joined together to slander, throwing mud and dishonoring the victim to prepare the ground for his physical elimination.

Then on August 6, 1875, Feast of the Transfiguration, inevitable happened.  Garcia Moreno went to Mass as he always did.  It was a First Friday so he spent some extra time before Our Lord in the Blessed Tabernacle.  Moreno who strove to imitate Our Lord in so many ways in his life was to imitate him in death also.  For those who plotted his death were those who knew him well – his friends - some whom had been "recipients of favors".  These "Judases" grew impatient outside the Cathedral.  Finally around 2 pm Moreno left the Church.

Almost immediately he was attacked by these murderers.  He was shot six times and struck fourteen times with a machete – one hand had been completely cut off with the other arm badly severed and one fatal blow to the brain.  It is said that he had 7-8 mortal wounds. These evil conspirators accomplish their wicked design shouting "Die, destroyer of Liberty!"  Garcia Moreno replied "God does not die!"  These were his last words.  He was rushed into the Cathedral where he was given Extreme Unction.  The priest asked him if he forgave his killers.  Despite the fact he could no longer speak, he indicated with his eyes that he had already done so.  There at the foot of Our Lady of Sorrows he expired.

The Woeful and Heart-rending Expression of
Our Lady of Good Success

Besides La Dolorosa, in Quito, Ecuador, the Miraculous Statue of Our Lady of Good Success that was once entered into by the Blessed Virgin, herself on a number of occasions -  becoming animated not only in front of the visionary, Mother Mariana, but also in front of the Catholic Ecuadorean Faithful, in the 1940's during a time of conflict and threatened war.

This statue is placed out in the church for  public veneration three times a year and has been known to change her expression very quickly.

The picture above was taken during the time of the Novena to her from Jan. 24th- Feb 2nd. - her feast day.

She often times looks as if she is about to begin crying.  She looks as if she is looking out at the world far beyond the monastery walls and see the ocean of sin.

This account of the Apparition of the Most Holy Trinity may explain her sadness:

" It was the year 1582. One day, after a particularly bitter incident with one of her Sisters, Mother Mariana went to the feet of Jesus Christ communicating to Him her torment and begging Him for fortitude.

While she was talking to Jesus, at a moment, she heard an overwhelming sound, and saw that the whole Church had become immersed in darkness, as from dust and smoke.

Looking up, Sister Mariana saw the main altar illuminated by full day. The Tabernacle opened and Christ Himself emerged, suffering, as on Golgotha in His agony with the Blessed Virgin, St. John and Mary Magdalene at His feet.

Seeing this, the humble virgin, believing herself to be at fault, prostrated herself on the ground with her arms extended in the form of a cross, exclaiming:

«Lord, I am the guilty one. Punish me and pardon your people».

Her Guardian Angel made her rise, saying:

«No! You are not to blame. Arise and approach, for God desires to reveal to you a great secret».

She arose, and seeing the tears of the Most Holy Virgin, she addressed her, saying:

«My Lady, am I to blame for thy sadness?».

«No, it is not you, but the criminal world!».

Then, as Our Lord agonized, she heard the voice of the Eternal Father saying:

«This punishment will be for the 20th century!»

Then, she saw three swords over the head of Christ. On each was written:

“I shall punish heresy”,
“I shall punish impiety”,
“I shall punish impurity”,

and she was given to understand all that would take place in the 20th century. The Holy Virgin continued:

«My daughter, will you sacrifice yourself for the people of this time?»

«I am willing» Mariana replied.

It has been promised that there would always be a victim soul suffering in reparation for the sins of Mankind until the end of time just as Mother Mariana became a victim soul for us....

The Untitled Image from the
Conceptionist Convent
in Quito, Ecuador with tear stains on her cheeks

In 2000, my husband and I were privileged to visit the Conceptionist Monastery in Quito, Ecuador before an adoption. Within these walls, there was a beautiful painting of Our Lady and the Infant Jesus that was sorely in need of repair. I was touched by the beauty of her face and couldn't help but pause as we passed in front of the painting.  As I studied her face, I could not help but notice that her cheeks were stained with 2 streaks as if the painting had been weeping.  The Mother Abbess confirmed that it had in fact wept, but at a much earlier time and did not give me any details....

What secrets does this painting hold???  Only Heaven knows!

In closing, the sadness and tears of Our Lady are a gift from her to make us wake up to realize the state of the World, our country and our own souls.  If these tears do not touch our hearts I ask you, what will??? We must take notice and follow her along the Way of the Cross!

Our Lady gave Mother Mariana a solution to the present situation in which we find ourselves today!  We should not only heed her words but imitate her as well:

"Pray insistently without tiring and weep with bitter

tears in the secrecy of your heart, imploring our Celestial Father that, for love of the Eucharistic Heart of my Most Holy Son and His Precious Blood shed with such generosity and by the profound bitterness and sufferings of His cruel Passion and Death, He might take pity on His Ministers and quickly bring to an end those ominous times, sending to this Church the Prelate that will restore the spirit of its Priests."
