Pope Pius XII on Praying the Rosary

“We do not hesitate to affirm again publicly that We put great confidence in the Holy Rosary for the healing of evils which afflict our times. Not with force, not with arms, not with human power, but with Divine help obtained through the means of this prayer, strong like David with his sling, the Church undaunted shall be able to confront the infernal enemy, repeating to him the words of the young shepherd: "Thou comest to me with a sword, and a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of armies . . . and all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear, for this is his battle, and he will deliver you into our hands" (I Kings 17, 45-47)For this reason, We earnestly desire, Venerable Brethren, that all the faithful, following your example and your exhortation should respond solicitously to Our paternal exhortation, uniting their hearts and their voices with the same ardor of charity. If the evils and the assaults of the wicked increase, so likewise must the piety of all good people increase and become ever more vigorous. Let them strive to obtain from our most loving Mother, especially through this form of prayer, that better times may quickly return for the Church and society.”

[Pope Pius XII, Encyclical Ingruentium malorum. On Reciting the Rosary, 15-16.]

Words from the Austrian Originator of this International Project

Louis-Pierre Laroche, initiator of the Public Rosary:

Our initiative is not only about praying the Rosary.

It is about praying the Rosary in public spaces.

When you pray the Rosary in public space, you are praying as Catholic citizens and thus,

1. You affirm by the act the inalienable right to pray in public space,

2. By praying the rosary, you place God in the middle of the public space, and with God, the natural order and natural law, which are the objective standard for judging all social relations and laws,

3. You pray for the society. Society is what happens in the public space. It is important to understand that the state does not have or should not have any power over the private space and over the church.

4. Through this, all this becomes visible and understandable for everyone. That's all that needs to be said.

You see, this is extremely powerful and important!

It is a peaceful Crusade of the Catholic citizens for our time and for the next generations.

"The history of my homeland Austria bears witness to how the prayer of the Rosary can resolve even desperate and hopeless situations. Austria was an occupied country from 1945 to 1955 and no one believed that it could ever be free again. It was a priest who started the public prayer of the Rosary and hundreds of thousands of people joined. Our Heavenly Mother brought the prayers in front of our Divine Saviour and Austria became free again in 1955.
We are convinced that the Virgin Mary hears us also now in our afflictions. Invite your friends, your relatives, your neighbours, take candles and pray the Rosary every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in public places, in front of churches, at statues of Mary - as we are doing now in our cities and villages. And even if there are only a few of you, be confident that others will join you!"
